With nothing we came

and with that we built a house

so high that its shoulders

now proudly tower above the crowds

We paved the streets with wisdom

from north, south, west and east

on these our children will march to war

or stroll forever in joyful peace

Hey, we’re a city full of strangers

All people on their own

We’ve come and flocked together

And now we are at home

We bring the seeds of memory

to be planted in a garden green

Many more stories high they grow

and hold a secret rarely seen

There are some dwelling up there

moving in their quarters

Finding existence in the trees that we speak

in the forest that grows from our hearts

Hey, we’re a city full of strangers

All people on their own

We’ve come and flocked together

And now we are at home

Words came with power but the rain was stronger

and washed them away, let me stand on the edge

as the clouds break open, my eyes they open

In walks the light that gives birth to the day

It’s the light we all drink, we all drink from the same

It’s the water that pours on each one like rain

It’s the pleasure of love but not without pain

Or we turn it around and it turns into shame

There’s the master and servant, existing today

in the alleys of one hundred nights on the way

There’s the getting lost in what’s needless to say

So let’s leave it unsaid and decide to stay…

in a city full of strangers

All people on their own

We’ve come and flocked together

And now we are at home
